What is LASIK?

Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) eye surgery is the best known and most commonly performed laser refractive surgery. LASIK reshapes your cornea using specialized lasers to correct vision problems including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism, and can be an alternative to wearing glasses or contact lenses.

At Kleiman Evangelista Eye Centers of Texas, our team of doctors uses the latest laser vision correction technology, including Femtosecond lasers and the Wavelight® laser suite for true bladeless LASIK as well as Contoura® and Vario testing to ensure your LASIK treatment is tailored to you and your eyes.

LASIK is typically painless, its results are typically immediate, and its recovery period is short. In many cases, the surgery can be performed on both eyes in under 15 minutes, and since it’s an outpatient procedure, you will be able to relax in the comfort of your own home as your eyes heal.

How Does LASIK Work?

This non-invasive laser vision correction surgery is done with lasers to reshape your cornea. Special suction tools are used to keep your eyes open as the laser does its work in about five minutes per eye. This pain-free procedure has little downtime or recovery required. The entire process usually takes around 15 minutes and you can get back to normal activities within the next day.

With the newly shaped cornea, you will experience sharper vision without the need for additional lenses. While there is no guarantee, we have a high success rate and many patients that are thrilled with the process. Most will experience sharper vision within 1-3 days of surgery, though the full healing process will take up to three months.
