The first step to getting Blade-Free LASIK is the complimentary consultation. The consultation is free to patients wanting to see if they are an ideal candidate for LASIK. It generally takes 1.5 to 2 hours and involves a series of vision tests conducted by our skilled technicians, an in-depth discussion with a knowledgeable patient counselor, a thorough eye exam and discussion with an optometrist to determine candidacy and a meeting with one of our surgeons who will make final recommendations and answer any remaining questions you may have.
1. Vision Testing
Without touching your eye, the WaveScan determines the unique topography of your eyes in order to create a “road map” for your personalized vision correction.
The Pentacam is basically a corneal camera. It takes thousands of pictures of your eye in just seconds that tell your doctor the distinct shape, structure and thickness of your cornea so that he or she can decide on your most safe and effective treatment option(s). The technician will then apply drops to each eye to dilate your pupils. This takes about 20 minutes to work, so you will be taken to a comfortable setting to meet with a LASIK specialist.
2. Discussion with LASIK Specialist
Overview of the Procedure
Your LASIK counselor will demonstrate the procedure using a digital animation and/or 3-dimensional model and discuss the technology, process and what to expect.
Tour of the LASIK suite
If you would like to see where the procedure will take place, your LASIK counselor can give you a tour of the LASIK suite. If a procedure is in process, you may be asked to wait or can observe through the rooms’ floor-to-ceiling windows.
3. Pre-op Exam with Optometrist
Once your eyes have become fully dilated, the optometrist will do a thorough eye exam to determine the overall health of your eyes.
Discussing Eye Health and Medical History
The optometrist will then review the results of your WaveScan and Pentacam, as well as his or her findings during the exam. He or she will ask you questions about past eye injuries, surgeries and/or issues to create a comprehensive assessment.
Your optometrist will then discuss whether or not Blade-Free LASIK will be a safe and effective procedure for you.
4. Meet Your Surgeon
Answering Any Remaining Questions
Dr. Kleiman, Evangelista, Frasier, Ramsey or Sobti will meet with you to answer any remaining questions or concerns you have regarding the LASIK procedure and either confirm your candidacy or explain other treatment options.
Preparing You for Next Steps
If you are a LASIK candidate, your surgeon will go over next steps and ensure that you are comfortable with him and the procedure.
