Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome

If you are over the age of 40, you may have noticed that you need to hold objects farther away in order to read. Maybe the menu at your favorite restaurant seems to be out of focus, or you find yourself holding the newspaper at arm’s length to see better. And, for the first time in your life, you’re having to correct your vision by wearing reading glasses. This natural part of aging is dysfunctional lens syndrome (DLS), also known as presbyopia or over-40 vision, and is caused when the lens of the eye becomes less flexible making it more difficult to focus. Fortunately, Kleiman Evangelista Eye Centers offers a treatment uniquely designed to correct your near vision issues: The Corneal Inlay Procedure.

Around age 40, our eye’s natural lens hardens, becoming less flexible and making it harder to focus on up close items. DLS, known as presbyopia, is a natural age-related condition.

DLS has traditionally been treated with over-the-counter reading glasses because until now, there has been no long-term solution for treating near vision issues.

With the Corneal Inlay Procedure, our surgeons are able to offer patients a blade-free outpatient procedure resulting in clearer vision, reducing or eliminating the need for reading glasses and bifocals.

More than 20,000 corneal inlay procedures have been performed internationally, reducing and in some cases, even eliminating patients’ need for reading glasses and bifocals.

Smaller and thinner than the average contact lens, the inlay is a ring-shaped device inserted into the cornea of the non-dominant eye. It works like a camera using a small pinhole to expand your depth of focus.

I have really enjoyed having LASIK. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. It’s helped me in my career as a college professor and with all of my hobbies. It was much more affordable than I thought, too. It’s such a great value!

By having the surgery done by Dr. Evangelista, it really helped me out a LOT being able to see and focus. Seeing 200 yards away without glasses is AWESOME. I’m absolutely glad I did it.
