Pterygium Removal

Pterygia are fibrous, non-cancerous growths that appear on the clear, thin membrane that covers the white of the eye (the sclera). Caused by overexposure to the elements, these growths cause hazy vision — and sometimes even block one’s vision entirely — and cannot be cured with glasses or contact lenses. The best way to prevent a pterygium is to wear sunglasses and a hat to limit your exposure to sun, dust, wind, smoke, and other environmental factors.

Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is the leading preventable cause of blindness in the U.S. It is estimated that over two million Americans have some type of glaucoma, and half of them don’t even know it. Although there’s no cure for glaucoma, the condition can usually be controlled, and if detected early enough, proper treatment may help minimize vision loss.

Dry Eye Treatments

Did you know that dry eye affects more than 100 million people worldwide? The general consensus among medical experts is that the increased presence of computers, smartphones, and video games in our daily lives is the likely culprit. When we use our phones or computers for extended periods of time, we tend to blink less, which leads to a decrease in our eyes’ natural tear production and, in some cases, dry eye.

Corneal Conditions

Because the cornea sits at the front of the eye and plays such a prominent role in your ability to focus, any damage it sustains can significantly affect your vision. There are a number of common corneal conditions, including corneal abrasions.

Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a condition in which a normal, dome-shaped cornea becomes progressively thinner and bulges forward, which is usually associated with increased astigmatism and decreased vision. Keratoconus is commonly found in, but not limited to, the Hispanic population. Both eyes are typically affected, though it is rare for them to progress equally. In its early stages, keratoconus may be difficult to detect because the condition develops slowly, often not presenting itself until the twenties or thirties.

Retina Conditions

Located at the back of the eye, the retina senses light and images and sends them as signals to the brain via the optic nerve. As such, retinal conditions can have a significant impact on your vision. There are several common retinal conditions, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration foremost among them.

Visian ICL

For patients who are not ideal LASIK candidates, alternative procedures are available to improve vision and quality of life. For those who suffer from moderate to severe nearsightedness with or without astigmatism, as well as patients who suffer from severe dry eye or thin corneas, the Visian ICL procedure is an excellent option.

CLE Procedures

Clear Lens Exchange (CLE) is an alternative to LASIK, PRK, and other vision correction procedures. Using the same intraocular lens options seen in cataract surgery (LifeStyle Lenses), Clear Lens Exchange is used to correct vision when cataracts are not present.
