After the vision-enhancing benefits of LASIK, many people find that their vision is sharper and better than it has been in years. But now that their eyes are no longer hidden behind glasses, they may also notice little cosmetic details they had not previously observed. Sagging, drooping or heavy eyelids, bags under the eyes and fine wrinkles are suddenly in focus. Even when they’re rested, their eyes may look tired, less alert and certainly, less youthful.
That is why Drs. Kleiman and Evangelista are now partnering with Dr. Mark Jaffe to meet the demand for an experienced and skilled ophthalmic plastic surgeon with expertise in procedures that can refresh and rejuvenate the entire orbital complex – from the eyes and eyelids to the brow.
Dr. Jaffe brings to patients of Kleiman Evangelista Eye Centers a myriad of cosmetic procedures, including upper and lower lid blepharoplasty, endoscopic brow lifts and techniques to reduce fine lines and wrinkles with BOTOX and injectable fillers such as Juvederm. In addition, the doctor provides lip enhancement and skin rejuvenation. Since 1991, he has performed more than 15,000 cosmetic procedures for patients in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Dr. Jaffe grew up in Texas and received his medical degree from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He did an internal medicine internship at the Baylor College of Medicine and then completed an ophthalmology residency at his alma mater, the University of Missouri. Before entering private practice, he pursued advanced training in ocular plastic surgery during a fellowship in the Dallas area. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
“Rejuvenating the eye, eyelid and eyebrow area of the face offers patients many advantages and can be done with a minimally invasive procedure that offers minimal downtime or discomfort,” says Dr. Jaffe.
Blepharoplasty can help create a more youthful, natural appearance and allows women to have a wider eyelid platform on which to apply eye make-up. It can also be done for medical reasons, including correcting abnormal positioning of the eyelids, removal of malignant or benign tumors or improving peripheral vision that has been compromised by heavy lids that overhang the eye.
“As we get older, the skin around the eyes becomes thinner and less elastic, which makes it stretch and appear loose,” says Dr. Jaffe. “Smoking, sun damage and family heredity are also factors in how much it affects your overall appearance.”
Dr. Jaffe uses a minimally invasive technique using local anesthesia. He frequently uses a laser rather than a scalpel to make incisions, which reduces bleeding during the procedure and bruising during recovery. The procedures are done in the office on an outpatient basis with patients going home the same day.
Dr. Jaffe is a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
