Every year thousands of patients choose LASIK to improve their vision — including your favorite celebrities.

You’ve heard the buzz about LASIK, but what exactly is it, and how does it work? LASIK, which stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, is a quick and safe eye surgery that reshapes your cornea. LASIK can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and even astigmatism.

In 2019 alone, approximately 690,000 Americans underwent LASIK surgery. By the end of 2020, that number is expected to reach 718,000. For many of these patients, LASIK not only provides freedom from contacts and glasses — it also offers a self-esteem boost. Countless celebrities agree and have turned to LASIK to improve their confidence and comfort. Here’s a list of famous LASIK patients and what they have to say about the surgery:

  1. Nicole Kidman

Australian actress Nicole Kidman has taken Hollywood by storm since her acting career kicked off in the 1980s. She’s been cast in over 60 movies and won nearly every award there is in the industry, including an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

She’s also a LASIK patient. After undergoing LASIK surgery in 2007, Kidman told journalists, “I was walking around legally blind. Now I have 20-20 vision. I can’t believe I spent so many years blurry.”

  1. Lebron James

Touted as one of the “greatest basketball players of all times,” Lebron James of the LA Lakers knows clear vision plays a pivotal part in his performance. He underwent LASIK surgery in 2007 — the same year as Kidman — to free himself from contact lenses and ensure flawless vision on and off the court.

Between 2007 and 2008, he had one of his best seasons, setting career highs in points per game, blocks, rebounds, and field goal percentage. While we can’t say for sure if LASIK is responsible for these results, many believe the surgery played a significant part.

  1. Lisa Ling

CNN journalist Lisa Ling made waves when she received LASIK surgery live on ABC’s The View, a show she used to co-host. Following the surgery, Ling is reported to have said, “As someone who is constantly on the road for her job and sometimes unable to find the most sanitary of conditions, liberating myself from contact lenses and glasses has made my life infinitely easier. It’s been more than a decade since the surgery, and I can see just as clearly as ever.”

  1. Taylor Swift

Musical icon Taylor Swift has accomplished a lot in her 30 years. At 14, she was the youngest artist signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. Since then, her music consistently tops billboard charts and her collection of Grammys continues to grow.

She decided to undergo LASIK surgery in 2019, commenting to Jimmy Fallon in an interview, “It was great. I really can see very well [now].” During this interview, Fallon also surprised Swift with the viral video of her post-surgery “banana incident.”

  1. Richard Branson

Iconic British businessman Richard Branson co-founded Virgin Group in the 1970s. Today, the group owns more than 400 companies across sectors. Beyond his business ventures, Branson is known for his never-ending search for adventure and his penchant for breaking world records. He swims with sharks, skydives, and even attempted a transatlantic crossing in a hot air balloon.

For this adventure junky, a life free from glasses and contacts was key. Branson had LASIK surgery more than a decade ago and was “delighted” with the results.

The LASIK List Continues…

The five celebrities listed here are just a few of the many athletes, actors, musicians, and influencers who have undergone LASIK eye surgery. Brad Pitt, Kim Kardashian, Tiger Woods, Dennis Quaid, Jessica Simpson, Elton John, and countless others have all turned to LASIK to gain clear, lens-free vision and improve their confidence.
