LASIK vs. Wearing Contacts or Glasses Over a Lifetime | | Posted Monday, July 7, 2008 by lasiksurgery | If you wear contacts or glasses and have considered LASIK Surgery but are concerned about the cost, think about this – LASIK will pay for itself in about three years.
How could that be? Consider that LASIK is a one-time fee, while glasses and contact lenses require a lifetime commitment.
A doctor’s visit to examine your eyes every two years is the recommended guideline for people who wear glasses. If your prescription has changed, you will need new glasses with lenses and frames. Even if you’re fortunate not to need a stronger prescription, you may still want new frames to update your appearance. In addition, some people have more than one pair of glasses just in case one gets broken or misplaced. And let’s face it, glasses, especially designer frames, are increasingly expensive and usually not covered by your health care plan.
If you wear contacts, you will have monthly costs for new lenses and supplies, along with an eye examination every two years. That doesn’t include emergency doctor visits if you develop eye irritation or an infection from wearing the contacts. |
The Real Costs of LASIK | | Posted Monday, July 7, 2008 by lasiksurgery | Whether you wear glasses or contacts, don’t forget the need for prescription sunglasses.
Let’s take a look at the math. Here are the national averages for glasses and contacts:
Doctor visit $150 every two years Prescription glasses $320 every two years Contacts $48 a month Contact Supplies $12 a month Prescription sunglasses $270 every two years
Here is the national average for LASIK: $1,644 per eye – a one-time charge. Plus, after LASIK you will no longer need to pay for expensive prescription sunglasses. Why not put the money you would spend on glasses and contacts to better use in a long-term savings retirement plan?
To make LASIK convenient and affordable for every budget, most LASIK Centers offer flexible financing plans. For example, the Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex currently offers the following financing options: 24 months no interest 12 months no payments, no interest Payments as low as $33 a month

Change 100 Lives in 100 Minutes | | Posted Monday, July 7, 2008 by lasiksurgery | ARLINGTON, TX. -- During just 100 minutes April 9, Dr. Anthony W. Evangelista will be one of 100 surgeons nationwide who will change the lives of 100 low-income people whose failing eyesight will go from murky to new-found clarity at all distances with crystalens® cataract-lens implants ... free of charge.
The program – Changing 100 Lives in 100 Minutes – not only can improve patients’ eyesight dramatically, but many patients may never need eyeglasses again.
Bausch & Lomb, which manufactures the innovative crystalens intraocular lens for cataracts, will donate 100 pairs of these lenses – not generally covered by private insurance or Medicare. Then, from coast to coast, 100 participating ophthalmologists -- including Dr. Evangelista (see biography below) -- will perform crystalens implantation surgeries simultaneously during the next hour and 40 minutes ... at no additional charge.
This national effort will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. Eastern daylight time with the implantation of the 100,000th crystalens.
Crystalens is the only intraocular lens that uses eye muscles to focus in much the same way as the eye’s natural lens, and is designed to provide clear vision at all distances ... near, intermediate and far. The crystalens design is based on the human eye and uses the eye muscle to focus on objects at all distances. It is the only lens to use the eye’s natural focusing ability and is the first and only such lens to be approved by the FDA. Few crystalens patients have experienced problems with night vision, halos or glare.
