Dr. Ighani is an Arlington, Texas native who received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He attended medical school at Texas Tech School of Medicine in Lubbock, and completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.

During residency, Dr. Ighani trained extensively at the Macular Degeneration Clinical Research Center in Galveston, received additional training in ocular oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas and expert LASIK and refractive surgery training under NASA's own consultant Ophthalmologist for the space program in Houston. During his final year of training, Dr. Ighani had the privilege of residing as chief resident.
